In 2017, Professor Elmore's FIU English classes teamed up with BBC Recreation to raise over $300 for victims of Hurricane Maria with their Hoops for Humanity tournament.

In 2018, they raised over $700 for FIU veterans with the Hoops for Heroes tournament.  In 2019, they raised funds for the Lotus House Women's Shelter.
